Geological carbon sequestration basically involves exploiting natural geological processes to bind atmospheric carbon into a solid form.
It has been known for some time that natural geological processes pull carbon out of the atmosphere over long periods of time, a process known as weathering. In this case, a mineral known as peridotite has been shown to react with carbon dioxide to form a solid carbonate, thus locking it into a solid state. This could be a key to returning at least some of the carbon emitted by burning fossil fuels to the ground in a form that would be likely to keep it there. Learn More
