In a 2008 survey on the amount of CO2 emissions caused by fossil fuel combustion in a country, China and the U.S. were the top two countries on the list. Why is this? Cars are the main source of CO2 emissions and have caused the amount of greenhouse gases to escalate. The two most populated countries in the world would most likely be the most to emit CO2 because most families own cars that burn fossil fuels which emit greenhouse gases into the environment. To solve this problem, one must turn to an idea that “died” in 2002: electricity. Electricity can power a car up to 100 miles on one charge without the need to burn oil, depleting the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere. However, many may say that electricity in return creates greenhouse gases since fossil fuels are burned in order to generate it. This problem can easily be solved by one of Earth’s greatest assets: the sun. The sun continuously emits solar radiation that can be harnessed into energy. Solar power can produce electricity that will help to power the electrical car. If gas pumps were replaced with charge stations, then people would no longer need gasoline to power their vehicles; thus, depleting one cause of greenhouse gases. Each electrical charge station would be solar powered so that there would be no need to burn fossil fuels, like coal, in order to generate electricity. Ergo, electricity can help to save the Earth if people choose to utilize it.

When vehicles are being used, and factories are operating, hazardous and neutral gases are being released into the Earth’s atmosphere. There they begin to absorb and emit radiation. These gases are also known as greenhouse gases. Over time, these gases continue to absorb and trap more and more heat in the Earth’s atmosphere, contributing to global warming. There are many ways to reduce the production of greenhouse gases, but there are a few that work the best. First of all, people need to stop using cars and start looking at other environmentally friendly methods of transportation. If you really need to use your car, for example to go to work, then you should take care of and maintain your car very well because that way it wont be emitting too much hazardous pollutants. If you don’t mind not using your car, then you can ride a bike to work or school, or even walk there if it’s close enough. A last resort would be riding the bus, which is still doing good for the environment since you’re not driving a car. Another effective way to help reduce greenhouse gases is to limit the use of electricity in your household. People can purchase energy efficient light bulbs to save energy. These are called Compact fluorescent light bulbs. Not only are they energy efficient, but they are also brighter than standard light bulbs. These are just a few ways to make the Earth a better place

Some of the reasons why it affects it are because of the decisions people make an the things they do. One way you can help is by reducing the gases which are like for example carbon dioxide an chlorofluorocarbons. In order for this type of material to work and they way we would help the earth from having its temperature go down would be if we use the Rs. Which is a method to Reduce, Rus, and Recycle. Many people are being affected by this problem so in order for us to help this be environment for people we must take action at at least do some reducing. Everyone can help and a way that they can help is by reducing water and oil. They can save up light and turn it off when they don't need it instead of leaving the light on. They can also save energy. An example which people can do is unplugging their chargers from the switches or anything that isn’t being used and is connected itll help to save energy by disconnecting it instead and then plugging it in when they need it. We can reuse by saving some things that we have an give it one of our family member or someone else that needs that certain thing we have to reuse it. You can always recycle by recycling cans, plastic, and paper.

Death is a hard topic to talk about, and when the time comes there are many decisions to be made. Caskets cost a lot of money and so does cremation. A new alternative that will grow life after death and is great for the environment is the biodegradable urn. The company Bios sells this great product. The biodegradable urns works in such a way: place the ashes into the urn with some soil, place your own tree seed or the seed you purchase with your urn into the soil, then plant it into the ground, take proper care and watch the tree grow. This is a cheaper and more memorable way to honor your loved one then a casket that hurts the environment. Wood caskets cost between $1,500-$3,000, whereas the biodegradable urn cost around $150. Around 23.7% of caskets are made from wood and this adds up to a lot of trees having to be cut down. If more people get educated and switch to the biodegradable urn we could save thousands of trees a year. The biodegradable urn can be used for humans and pets and is a great way to remember your loved one. The urn is 100% biodegradable and supports any seed. The biodegradable urn saves trees but also plants new trees, which helps the environment. Overall, with more education the biodegradable urn will hopefully show people that life is precious and that a beautiful tree can grow from such a sad situation.

Numerous ways exist to reduce greenhouse gasses and cut back our carbon footprint. Vehicles, heating, lumberjacking, and farming all release many greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. In specific, Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) pose an extreme threat to our environment from all the gasses they emit. In a 2006 report by the FAO of the United Nations, animal agriculture holds responsibility for 18 percent of all human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, including 37 percent of methane emissions and 65 percent of nitrous oxide emissions. The animals in these factory farms are crammed into small, unsanitary living areas. Their waste festers beneath the animals’ feet, compacting and breaking down to form methane. This methane escapes and releases into the atmosphere, aiding in global warming. CAFOs also emit a large amount of nitrous oxide emissions from all of the pesticides that are used to grow the genetically engineered corn fed to animals raised in them. In order to reduce emissions these CAFOs need to be stopped. Realistically, there is only a small chance they will be eliminated from our world but they can be regulated with strict guidelines and reduce the amount of animals they hold. Additionally, the people running them should clean the animal’s area regularly so methane won’t form. By placing regulations on the amount of animals they hold, the feed for the animals, and cleaning, the waste of the animals can be reduced and in essence, there will be fewer emissions from them, creating a better world for us.

What are greenhouse gases? Well, for short it’s called GHG. This creates an atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation within the thermal infrared range. But this is dangerous to the environment. This type of gas contains is carbon dioxide. The burning fuel of a car and factories burning toxins releases their dangerous gases to the atmosphere and environment. Not only just in one place, but it also causes global warming. So how do we reduce greenhouse gases? There are many hopeful and helpful ways to reduce this unhealthy issue. We can all reuse and a recycle. Less packaging will cause less burning chemicals. Lately, factories have been packaging their merchandise very heavily and most of the time it’s unnecessary. We can also replace our light bulbs with compact florescent lights. This is going to use less energy which also means less spending and lasts longer than your regular light bulbs. As well as using less hot water because it takes less energy to produce it. It’s a good idea to turn off your lights when you leave the room. When we’re using water for any reason like: brushing your teeth, shampooing, washing your car, turn off the water when you’re not using it. It’s very necessary also because we are in a drought and every drop of water counts. Another way of reducing these gases is to walk or use your bicycle. The majority of the world uses cars. It’s great to travel to places without using your energy but it’s a con to the environment. That is because we are causing global warming and burning fuels everywhere we go.

Raising livestock on a pasture-based farm can make a huge difference on your farm's carbon footprint. My family has a small hobby farm in the suburbs with cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats, and currently we do not raise all of our livestock in pasture. First of all, the main food source for livestock in pasture is the forage. This forage alone, if high-quality, is more digestible to livestock than the standard feed, causing them to produce less methane. The forage also is better at increasing carbon sequestration in soil than grain crops. You can also increase the digestibility of this forage by increasing its percentage of legumes. Secondly, putting livestock in pasture allows for no-till fields more easily, decreasing gas used by machinery and increasing the amount of carbon captured by the land (carbon sequestration). The pasture is also fertilized by manure so you won't have to use commercial fertilizers that are loaded with greenhouse gases. As long as this manure is evenly spread, done so by spread out water/feed sources, it will fertilize the land well. These measures will make a difference on the carbon footprint of a farm, as long as you take certain measures like preventing overgrazing and keeping the amount of cattle per acre relatively small. I will take steps to increase the amount of high-quality pasturing on my farm to decrease our carbon footprint.

An idea I have is developing a plastic bottle pipe system. To put it simply, we can develop a system that brings fresh, clean drinking water from a well system into homes. It can help bring clean water into homes and give use to plastic bottles instead of leaving them in landfills. We can also develop special filters that can help keep the water clean and great tasting, getting rid of the sometimes metallic taste some people get in their tap water. The plastic bottles can be reinforced with another plastic covering and a metal sheet. The water bottle system can also be more easy to maintain instead of a drainpipe system. To clean, all we would have to do is remove the water bottle system and begin the cleaning process instead of pouring chemicals like drain cleaner into it. It can also slow down plastic production and the breaking down of plastics which emits greenhouse gases. Since metal pipes need to get replaced a few times, you’ll practically never need to replace plastic piping since plastic is built to last. Overall, a water bottle pipe system is easier to maintain, healthier to use and environmentally friendly. It would also make tap water taste better!

Greenhouse gases are gases that allow sunlight to enter the earth freely. Gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. These greenhouse gases are causing a “climate change” on the Earth. These “climate changes” are causing global warming and is affecting our environment drastically. There are many ways to help reduce the greenhouse gases. You could reduce reuse and recycle. Do not using plastic bags. Instead recycle all household waste like plastic and paper, soda cans. Another step is to use less heat or air conditioning. Replace your light bulbs with (CFL) compact florescent light bulbs. Drive less and drive smart, if you drive less, it would reduce air pollution. Make sure that your car is being well taken care of, that the tires are pumped and the oil is changed. Another way is to buy energy efficient products. Also, use less hot water by setting your water heater to 120 degrees. When you’re brushing your teeth, make sure to turn off the water while you’re them. When you’re taking a shower, take a break in between and turn off the water. For example wash your body (turn off the water) put shampoo (rinse out shampoo, then turn off) put in conditioner (if you use any) (then rinse conditioner, then turn it off) put soap on body, rinse off and turn off water then you’re done. Make sure you turn off your lights. When you’re not using something like your bedroom light or bathroom light turn it off. Plant a tree. Trees release oxygen. Spread the word, encourage people to conserve and save.

My idea for reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is engineering and installing artificial trees in locations all around the world. The artificial tree would be powered by sunlight, and speed up the rate of taking in carbon dioxide and methane, and releasing oxygen. The reason I chose to design this invention in the shape of a tree is because the tree will have a natural appearance and plants and animals will still be able to use the tree for support and habitat. The type of tree it will look like will depend on the tall native trees in the area where the artificial tree will be installed. People will not be offended by its appearance. The artificial tree will have a very durable, tough, outside layer that cannot be cut or chewed down, with the look of bark. The tree will have an artificial root system of pipes and tubes with tiny holes. Using a motor to suck up water and nutrients from the ground into a storage tank in the trunk, chemical reactions will occur continuously with carbon-dioxide to form sugars, which can be harvested at any time necessary. The main way the artificial tree will be powered is by small solar panels wrapped around the branches or trunk to collect and use solar energy. The leaves will be programmed to expose the greatest amount of surface area where the greatest levels of carbon dioxide and methane are detected by sensors in the tree’s bark.

As you can tell greenhouse gasses are fossil fuels and the have to get burned to create electricity. some of the names of the fossil fuels are coal oil and natural gas when they are burned they cause pollution and that can lead to global warming but there is a way to solve that with clean energy wind solar hydro geothermal and biomass.So they invented the eletric car but were dose the eletricity come from it comes from somthing that is burned or it comes from a renewable reasourse. There is also different types of pollution that we don’t even know about like the carbon dioxide we breathe out luckily we have trees to absorb most of the carbon dioxide then brings it out oxygen it’s a never ending cycle but more and more people are starting to cut down more and more trees then thats going to ruin the earths atmosphere then lead to global warming. As you can see,greenhouse gasses make a big impact on the earth's atmosphere but we can try to stop the pollution count with clean energy but will it be enough?

We hope to build a trailer that showcases some energy technologies that could profoundly improve the lives of people in developing countries without increasing their greenhouse gas emissions. We have begun to build some of these technologies like the solar bottle light, which consists of a clear plastic water bottle mounted in a zinc roof. This light requires no electricity and provides light during the day for those not served by the national grid or facing electricity prices that are prohibitively high. We hope to also build an efficient cookstove, showcasing how indoor air quality can be improved for women who cook, deforestation can be slowed, and lives can be improved as less time is spent searching for firewood and substantially less wood is burned. We have also investigated a technique that implements used glass bottles that are filled with sand and incorporated into adobe walls to provide better insulation while cleaning up neighborhoods. These ideas are especially important to our Sustainability Club because our students travel to the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua each year. There we see the need for these types of simple, yet transformative technologies that are needed by villagers. By sharing these ideas with other students in New England, we could inspire others to consider ways they can reduce their own greenhouse gas footprint and travel abroad and see first-hand how they can help the environment and the nearly 2 billion people who live without access to electricity.

In order to limit our green house gas emissions, my idea is to have the government, either state or federal, place a limit on how much gas a company/organization or factory releases. This limit will be more along the lines of a suggestion, as it can be exceeded. However if the gas emissions do exceed the limit, a large financial penalty (taxation) will be the consequence. This penalty will vary regarding how much gas is produced beyond the limit. This money from the taxation can then be used to promote environmentally helpful causes such as clean ups and renewable energy. But the regulation on gasses must have to vary depending on the business and how successful it is. Another idea is to reward a company or organization financially if it does not exceed the limit placed on the certain field of work.

Climate change has been a global concern for decades. One of the biggest causes is greenhouse gases due to fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide causes most of greenhouse gas emissions. If the carbon dioxide concentration keeps rising at its current rate the result would be catastrophic. We have to take action to lessen carbon emission. One simple and effective way to do this is to plant trees. To start, let’s see what will happen when I plant one tree. A single grown tree can absorb 48 pounds of carbon dioxide each year. Compared to the 40 billion tons of carbon dioxide produced each year, one tree seems trivial. There are approximately seven billion people on earth. If every person plants a tree, it will make a huge difference. Also, planting trees is easy and has a long-lasting effect. After fourty years, a tree can absorb a ton of carbon dioxide, sometimes more. When seven billion more trees are planted, there will just be 24 trillion, 832 billion tons of carbon dioxide produced each year. In conclusion, I propose that we simply plant trees. The plan may be simple, and it may be easy, but in the end, good results will happen.

America is a leader in industry and technology. We have pioneered countless technological advances. Structures such as the Empire state building or the Gateway Arch are hallmarks of our industrial superiority. As American’s the most important thing in our lives is something so simplistic, but we cannot get enough of it, yes, as American’s we look for any method to help us save our limited time on this planet, even if it means slowly destroying it. It is hard to argue that with the melting of the polar ice caps in the north, and elevating drought levels in California, that our planet isn’t experiencing climate change. The fact is that Americans are producing over 30% of the carbon emissions in the world, and that number is steadily rising due to our lack of environmental care. The reason why? Personally, I think that it is because Americans lack an incentive to help our environment. That is why I am in favor of implementing the Electro-Scoot program. My vision with this program is to encourage Americans to take an eco-friendly electronic scooter to work in order to put an end to the carbon emission outputs in cars. The benefits of choosing to participate in this program will be instrumental, every person who drives an electro-scoot to work would receive a monthly check of 100 dollars, and on top of that, they wouldn’t have to pay the ridiculous gas prices, it’s a win win situation.

If we want to address climate change by reducing greenhouse gases, the most effective way to do so is by harnessing the energy of the sun. The sun is a powerful energy force that should be utilized to its fullest extent. The release of carbon dioxide as a result of burning gasoline is toxic to our environment. If car companies lower the prices of electric vehicles and hybrids and the government provides a small economic incentive for purchasing these cars, it would have a direct and immediate impact on climate change. Although car companies may see an initial dip in their profits as a result of the decreased price, their profits would soar as the movement gained momentum. The economic incentive from the government would also help to draw more business to these car companies. Furthermore, car companies should investigate the use of solar panels as a source of energy. If small solar panels were attached to the roof of the car, the car could use solar energy rather than electric energy for power. The solar energy would be the primary source, and the electric energy would be the backup. The cars would run off of solar energy during the day, use any remaining solar energy through the night, and turn to electric energy if necessary. No gasoline would be necessary to run these environmentally friendly vehicles. The government could provide a high economic incentive for solar-powered cars, a medium incentive for electric cars, and a low incentive for hybrids.

Renewable energy is an increasingly used avenue for energy production that will only continue to rise in popularity as fossil fuels dwindle. Our proposed method will implement an environmentally-friendly production of energy, by adding energy-producing beams on subway rails that can harvest kinetic energy from the motion of speeding subway cars. These eco-friendly beams would be constructed of carbon fiber in order to be able to withstand the pressure of the constant stream of subway trains travelling across them, while also remaining convenient in implementation. The carbon fiber beams will act as a pressure plate that is connected to a series of gears and flywheels. When pressure is applied, the beams turn gears that will rotate the flywheels, spinning a generator that creates electrical energy. This energy will then be used to power the lights of the underground subway stations while the trains are running. Any excess energy will be stored in the generator of the station for later use. This proposed system will help reduce the high amounts of energy expended in generating electricity for subway stations. For example, the NYC subway stations use around 500,000 kilowatts during its peak hours, and our design will reduce the amount of this energy that needs to be supplied by power plants. This green device generates an alternate source of power which can limit the amount of harmful pollutants that are emitted when conventional sources of nonrenewable resources are used to generate electricity, helping mitigate the rapid effects of climate change.

Let’s paint energy on to buildings! Buildings, houses, and stores are in the daylight from anywhere between one second to twelve hours. Why not use that amount of light and heat for something? The idea is to mix graphene, water-based paint and tiny solar panel “chips”. This combination will take in solar energy and the heat from the sun through the tiny solar panel chips that are mixed into the paint. The solar energy and heat will then be conducted through the water-based paint to graphene. The graphene will then take this energy to a capacitor, which could have enough power to power the building that is painted. The reason the water-based paint is involved is so that people can still paint their buildings whatever color they would like, but still have the energy saving chips and graphene to gather energy. Plus the water in the paint will help conduct energy.

Greenhouse gas emissions are a growing concern in our world. They could be mitigated by implementation of artificial leaves with the addition of glucose fuel cells. The benefits of such an innovation would be twofold. Bioengineered leaves with chloroplasts in a matrix of silk protein will undergo photosynthesis and convert the carbon dioxide into oxygen. The resultant glucose will be used to convert to electrical energy by the fuel cells which MIT has begun to implement. Large groups of these leaves in an area will be connected through a single line to the grid. An alternative is periodically collecting the glucose and using it to produce food globally. Starving countries such as Burundi and Sudan would be immensely benefited as they can use the glucose produced for consumption and reducing greenhouse gases. The cost of manufacturing these leaves could be offset by the fuel cell electricity production and glucose extraction from the leaves. Alternatively real plants require more maintenance such as water and nutrients which may not be supplied consistently. These leaves are self sufficient and proven ten times more efficient. They can be arranged into overlaid structures that enable maximum gas capture. A potential engineering problem is connecting all the leaves in a large area to one line that goes to the grid. To test the efficiency and flaws of the system, computer modeling of the interaction of the leaf, atmosphere, and glucose fuel cells will be done in Java. Prototypes of the perfected model could then be derived.

A large portion of the greenhouse gases released are a result of the use of motor vehicles as they consume fossil fuel. The decrease in the use of motor vehicles by human would tremendously reduce decrease the release of greenhouse gases. Today everyone travels by means of gas powered vehicle, whether it’s by car, bus, airplane, train, or motorcycle which is unhealthy for our environment and ultimately us. Major cities like Los Angeles and New York are well known for their horrendous traffic. So why do people still ride their car when they don’t get to their destination on time? All they’re doing is worsening the environment and stressing. A solution to both these problems would be to allow bike rentals in a 5 mile radius from each other. Not only will this help the problem of greenhouse gas but there will also be the elimination of traffic, it’s a great way to stay in shape, and it’s more affordable than traveling by car. Each day an average of 5.6 liters of gas is used per person and considering that there are billions of people around the world, that is a lot. With the addition of bike rentals in even one single city could have a huge positive impact and the people renting will probably switch altogether and buy a bike of their own and that will probably cause a domino effect and soon we’ll be seeing bikes all around us. An idea as simple as that can make the world a healthier place.

Greenhouse gasses change our environment and our atmosphere a great deal. When we burn fossil fuels while driving cars it becomes a major problem creating a positive feedback loop. The burning of fossil fuels has been a problem in the world for a long time now. Multiple generations will experience the effects of the cars we drive today. This world is the only world we have and we need to treat it with more respect. Electronic cars such as the Tesla, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, and more are much more environmentally friendly than any regular gas using cars. If the United States begins to subsidize the electronic car market it will create a new cleaner world. The United States basically leads the world in cars per capita which affects the environment greatly. Many complaints about the electronic cars are style, speed, and battery but with cars such as the Tesla, all three of those are addressed very well. Just from my community alone, I can see how popular of a car it already is. It is a major success and a great step for our generation. Electric cars are what will change this world for the better.

An increase in greenhouse gases has become an enormous problem on our planet. These greenhouse gases result largely from automobiles and factories, and can be prevented through alternative forms of energy. These alternative forms include, solar, wind, and nuclear. Scientists have been long trying to harness these forms of energy safely and efficiently in order to reduce the amount of pollution within the atmosphere. To achieve this goal of lowering greenhouse gas emissions, I would create an automobile which runs on nuclear energy. This particular automobile would need to be able to convert the nuclear energy into usable energy for the car engine, while catching and filtering the nuclear emissions and waste. Because nuclear power gives off less greenhouse gases, these cars would help to reduce the amount of pollution in our atmosphere that are currently ruining our ozone. The automobile would be equipped with a filter to catch and convert the nuclear waste and radioactivity, thus allowing zero poisoning emissions into the environment. Because automobiles are one of the leading causes of greenhouse gas emissions, this new invention would have an enormous impact on the environment. Although it would require greater amounts of uranium, which is a scarce resource on our planet, nuclear powered automobiles, if possible to block out radioactive emissions, would become the invention of the century.

Greenhouse gas emissions can be mitigated by improving the energy efficiency of public schools. This can be achieved by giving teachers more control over their individual classroom's energy consumption. The classroom's air conditioner will remain set to maintain a certain temperature, just as they are now, but teachers will have a switch that can turn the air conditioner off which could be useful if the air conditioning unit is not calibrated to a comfortable temperature. For example, if a classroom is calibrated to a colder temperature than comfortable and it’s in a warm climate, the teacher could temporarily turn the unit off, saving power and creating a more comfortable temperature. Additionally, we can give teachers a power switch with the ability to kill all power in the room. This will be switched off by the teacher as he/she leaves the room for the day. This will have an increased benefit when compared to individually turning devices off because some devices draw power even when off if plugged into an active outlet and this switch will prevent that. Both of these will be costly to install into existing buildings, but can be constructed into new buildings relatively inexpensively. If a school district made it its policy to simply include two switches in every new building constructed, great energy savings can be achieved.

My group of friends and I have come up with the idea of making a fire extinguisher out of dry ice. Now you may be thinking that has nothing to do with the greenhouse effect. Well, it does. We were researching and found out that most of the greenhouse effect is too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Also we had researched that dry ice is frozen CO2. We can use this for wildfires and the immediate heat would make a small soundwave that actually can put out the fire and for the rest of the fire the carbon dioxide would smother it out at the source because it would stay close to the ground sense it is denser than air. Once the fire is put out with these the carbon dioxide that is left at the burnt would stay at the ground, denser than air, and “feed” then new plant life that is growing back. Then new plant life grows back faster and cycles the CO2 for oxygen so getting rid of the carbon dioxide and replacing it with oxygen emitting plants. In order to get the carbon dioxide from the upper atmosphere we would need some sort of filter that would extract the carbon dioxide from the oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen molecules. We thought of a solution of that problem and that was freezing the co2 because that would freeze faster than the other molecules and it would be to high in the atmosphere to have much of a problem with the water molecules.

Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor, contribute to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiation. This causes the earth’s surface to heat up and cause major problems such as the melting of ice caps and droughts. In order to reduce the greenhouse effect, the populace will have to take precautions. One step of reducing greenhouse gases is to minimize the burning of fossil fuels. It includes limiting the use of cars and burning certain materials in factories. This emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Another way to reduce greenhouse gases is to decrease the number of cows because the species produce large quantities of methane when they pass gas. This would include a smaller meat industry because they breed the species for the meat and have the cows eat more which produces more flatus. The last way to limit the greenhouse effect is almost impossible without reducing carbon and methane emissions. Water vapor is the largest contributor to the greenhouse effect because it blocks the sunlight from leaving the troposphere. Once the carbon dioxide, methane and other gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect, the earth surface heats up. This also means that bodies of water, like the ocean, raise temperature and produce water vapor. It is a blocked cycle once the planet has heated up. Once we take action to these problems, it will reduce greenhouse gases and help the planet.

I'm 15 years old and I live in Pacoima, where factories are everywhere, from soda companies to food companies. from my school if you look out the window that's all we are surrounded by factories and more factories. many people don't realize how dangerous and unhealthy air pollution is. it is one of the most unhealthiest things out there. it is a mixture of gases that fills the atmosphere harming plants, plants, and of course us people. air pollution can cause asthma and for those who already have asthma it can be worst increasing risks of asthma attacks. it can also cause premature death and shortness of death. one way we can stop air pollution is to make automanufactures to install exhaust controls or develop less polluting engines. even restrict these machines and have actual people work. the state of California has many unemployed people. not only when we stop the air polluting but give jobs to those in need of them. Machines speed up manufacturing but it is not worth the risk of our own health. anything theses machines can do anyone can do. restricting these machines will better our community. factory owners simply do not care about what people have to say about the damage they are causing as long as they continue to produce and make money. which is why we must all get involved and help make a change. A group can take a step but residents cant also make a significant impact.

Solar panels are a great way to prevent lots of fossil fuels going into the air. But, on a day that’s not that sunny, power won’t be supplied to said building or home as easily. This may inspire people with panels to switch over to regular power and produce more fossil fuels. So I thought to myself, what if there was a way to always get clean energy, no matter the weather? You can also get clean energy with wind power. If it isn’t sunny outside, then there’s a good chance that it’s windy. Getting a wind generator can enable you to have good clean energy at any time of the year. Now, there’s of course the issue of cost. Solar panels are already expensive pieces of equipment. But, there are ways to make your own wind generator. That would be much cheaper than buying a real wind generator, but if people are really looking for really good power that’s 100% guaranteed to work, they could invest in a real generator. The real point is that people will stay with clean, renewable energy instead of switching over to energy produced from fossil fuels that is hurting our earth. Every little thing counts. I believe this could be one of those things that could make a huge difference of keeping earth clean.

We (me and my partner in crime) recently found a little YouTube video mentioning that Cockroaches produce hydrogen from paper, excrement, biomass such as algae, etc. all through the digestion of cockroaches. If we can harness this gas and burn that instead of other fossil fuels or natural gasses, it would greatly decrease CO^2 emissions. Plus it would put a use to cockroaches besides being spider food (I don't like cockroaches). When the cockroaches consume said biomass then trough its digestion, hydrogen is released from the previously consumed water. Also, the carcasses of the dead cockroaches can also be consumed in place of the biomass. I'm pretty sure that cockroaches fart out the Hydrogen or produce it in the form of CH4, in that case it would be ind of redundant, although from my limited knowledge, there might be a couple of ways to separate gases: A) a gas centrifuge B) a membrane that keeps the larger CH4 from passing but allows the H2 to pass or C) a chemical combination process which targets one (but not the other) substance

The whole planet earth is a greenhouse gas in its own way. The sole purpose of the atmosphere is to insulate the whole planet’s surface. Although the greenhouse effect isn't man made, humans can significantly help to slow down the process. Our mother star, the sun has always shone on the earth as far as astronomers can recall. Also the earth has always maintained an atmosphere a layer sheet of gasses and always trapped the suns radiation within it. The greenhouse effect is a love hate relationship it gave us the right conditions for us to exist and it can also kill us if it gets strong enough. But there’s many things us humans can do to stop it or at least slow it down. By simply reducing the amount of gases that are released into the atmosphere this would allow for infrared radiation from being trapped in the atmosphere to be greatly reduced. There’s other ways we can help to reduce this phenomenon but these are the most effective simply just reducing the amount of co2 emissions would make a huge difference overtime. Even though all of these suggestion of how to take on global warming can seem quite difficult or overwhelming in our modern way of life, it couldn't hurt to just do the simplest tasks like riding a bike instead of using a motorized vehicle its small things like these that could make a difference if enough people were to commit to it.

In cities around the world, solar highways can be installed. In rural areas, factory farmers can switch from the intensive farming of cows to tending solar and wind farms. The introduction of insects into the Western diet would lessen the demand for beef or pork. Farmers can also raise phytoplankton farms to produce more oxygen while simultaneously removing excess carbon dioxide. Placing these farms in developing regions would significantly boost their economy and the world's well-being. The sun shines on us for a reason!

There are many reasons that greenhouse gasses are causing global warming. One of the main reasons are factories using coal for their power, natural gasses being released from the ears, and the most common is car pollution. Cars release greenhouse gasses, which then move up to the O-zone layer. Its one of the reasons that California is beginning to have 100+ degree Fahrenheit summers. The number of registered vehicle in 1998 is 6,133,221. The number has risen and in 2008 the number grew to 7,514,243 vehicles being registered. This is not including public transportation. There are many reasons this should be a concern. There are many ways to deal with this issue. One way is taking public transportation to wherever you need to go. What the governments can do is offer free public transportation to the companies that have workers that live far away. This way people don’t have to buy a car or get in their vehicle and waist gas to go to work. What the governments can also do is have a station to where the workers can go to get picked up and dropped off, to and from work. This way people wouldn’t pollute taking their diesel truck or v8 engine vehicle to work. I believe this would change the amount of greenhouse gasses released by motorized vehicles. In this world, our environment can be destroyed but not created so we need to take care of our land and cherish what we have.

Many of our human activities affect the earth and environment without us realizing. If we do not open our minds to these situations, we will be the main reason why the atmosphere has a warmer climate, leading to many other changes around the world. There are many ways we could prevent greenhouse gases such as: Recycling, Using Less Heat and Air Conditioning, Driving Less, Replacing Light Bulbs fluorescent light, Planting plants to give off cleaner oxygen, and lastly, letting other know how important it is to conserve. These are some of the many ways to prevent greenhouse gases from increasing and worsening our atmosphere, and it is important that many others such as I become aware. The more others know about the severity of the issue the more action could be taken to better the situation. We are part of the cause so why not change that and have us be part of the solution. Other ways to reduce greenhouse gases could be to Use non-toxic household products, Wash clothes in cold or warm water, Install solar lights, Adjust your thermostat, or get a home energy audit. There is so much one can do it just takes them to try doing little things. Just by doing the little things many will be surprised of the outcome. I myself have learned a lot and I’m trying to conserve as of now.

After living in China for multiple years, it has become apparent to s group of students at our school that it is crucial to take in consideration of air quality and reduce CO2 emissions. So we made it our mission to reduce CO2 at our school. After watching the Ted Talk called "How to grow fresh air", we were inspired by his idea to introduce units of 11 plants into our homes and into our everyday lives. That is why we have organized a committee called "Enhance your chance with plants TO2 (TO2 double meaning: refers to oxygen and two o's, too). In this committee we coordinated a fund-raiser in which teachers and families of our community could buy a unit of 11 plants. This unit is the right amount of plants to produce a healthy environment and improve air quality for one person. The unit consists of three types of plants: 6 Mother-in-law's tongues, 4 Areca Palms, and one Money Plant. We would like to expand our program in our community and work with other schools to make this a regular feature of homes both in China and the rest of the world. We are documenting our work, developing presentations and posting manuals of this project on our Environmental Studies Website. we would like to advance our ideas to the broader community and world by creating a successful model for other schools, promoting our idea through social media and technology, as well as, through our work with other schools.

That doesn’t sound good, does it? It’s not. Basically, we humans are the main cause of the greenhouse gases. Some people do these things and don’t even know they’re doing it. Like driving, or using too much electricity. They commit to greenhouse gases. It’s almost amazing to realize how every simple act you make can lead to global warming. So, this is a list of things that you can do to reduce greenhouse gases. There are many things you can do to stop and start greenhouse gases. Leaving a light on in a room that’s not being used? Turn it off. It’s not doing you any good to keep it on, as the use of electricity starts greenhouse gases and, in case you didn’t know- costs money. This also applies to televisions, radios, and anything that requires electricity to work. Another thing you can do to stop global warming is to walk or ride a bicycle to places instead of driving. Cars emit about one fifth of all U.S. emissions to global warming. About twenty-four pounds carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases come from just one tank of gas. Not using a car could do so much for us and the earth. Sure, we’d be getting places slower, but otherwise we’d be poisoning the earth. Walking or riding a bike is so much more efficient. It doesn’t contribute to global warming, and it gives us health benefits like losing weight and gaining healthier breathing. There are so many more things that we people could do to stop greenhouse gases, but I think this is enough. After all, these things happen at every minute of every day, and they are the main contributes to greenhouse gases. I hope you take these examples into consideration, because not doing these things is really an excuse to being lazy. I know, we do need to use cars and electricity, but it wouldn’t be that hard to not use them as much.

While renewable energy is beneficial to the environment, it comes with its own problems. You need large tracts of land to generate significant power, and these areas can be far from places that would use the energy. Storing energy for long periods of time can be hazardous, while transporting it long distances can get expensive and cause more pollution. Using solar trees, a combination of synthetic trees (which absorb CO2 from the atmosphere) and solar panels, may help solve these problems. Similar to artificial tree cell towers, they would blend in with normal trees in places like parks or near roads. The trunk would be the synthetic tree portion, supporting the “branches” which will be coated in photovoltaic paint to generate solar power. These aesthetically pleasing alternatives to large solar grids can have outlets to let anyone charge their devices with clean free energy, or be used to provide energy to nearby buildings. You can ideally plant solar trees wherever there are trees, so they could be used in most of the world. The ability to place these power sources close to buildings and people would lessen the need for long distance travel by trucks or ships. Acting as synthetic trees, they would also absorb CO2 from the atmosphere wherever they are planted, cleaning the air slightly. These solar trees can get renewable energy to companies and people in many places. Providing many people with clean energy is a good first step to mitigating carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Climate change is becoming more of an issue in the news, and in ordinary life. Climate change is the statistical change of average weather patterns. It is caused by CO2 and nitrogen, along with other trace gases in the atmosphere. Large amounts of CO2 and nitrogen cause climate change. Photosynthesis happens in a plant using a chemical reaction equation: CO2 + H2O → C6H12O6 + O2. In other words, plants take in carbon dioxide and water, and with the help of sunlight and chlorophyll, it creates glucose and oxygen. A solution to climate change is algae. We can create a homemade algae scrubber to reduce the amount of CO2 in the air. Algae scrubbers will work by using a bubbler connected to a bottle with algae, water, and nutrients in it, to provide the carbon dioxide for the algae. Once you are done with the algae, you can either bury it, or put it in your compost pile. This will prevent and reverse the effects of the large amounts of CO2, which includes the global temperature rising a whole degree. Once we use homemade algae scrubbers, the temperature will go back to normal. Also, using the algae for compost will give us a more green and recyclable lifestyle. This will reduce the amount of waste and trash in landfills. Using the algae scrubber, the world will be able to return to its previous temperature, and weather habits.

Putting in risk our children grandchildren and so on. A way we can reduce this is mainly by stopping or lowering the time of car usage. Doing this will not only save us money that’s spent on gas,but it will also gain us more years of life since there will be less toxins going into the air and into our system. If you live far from work,school, or simply want to go pay a visit to a loved one public transportation may be an option since many of todays buses are “earth friendly”.Meaning they don’t release as much gases into the air. If the desired destination is close by it is good to walk instead of taking a car as a habit, being physically active is an important decision that should be made in ones life to maintain good health A good way of bringing this solution into peoples attention would be by talking to near by peers and letting them know about the risks that greenhouse gases cause to the community and to our air. Informing people will spread the word and eventually the topic will come into consideration and there will be caring people who may bring this to the attention of higher importance personnel , thIs can start a campaign for less car usage and much more public transportation and walking. These measures aren't drastic because with the proper caring our planet will survive longer and the air will be much cleaner.Greenhouse gases is not a local problem it is a global problem and something should be done to control these gasses before its too late. Lets focus on making a better healthier environment than a environment of wealth full of diseases.

One of the biggest sources of greenhouse gasses is an automobile. The United States has more automobiles than any other country in the world. The petroleum fuels burned by the millions of cars on the road in the United States emit greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane. The reduction of the amount of cars being used could dramatically reduce greenhouse gasses. One way of doing this would be for government to encourage alternative transportation. Governments on the local level could encourage alternative ways of transportation by creating incentives for people to ditch their cars for transportation. Incentives like discounted public transportation costs and tax breaks for people who use bicycles to get around could decrease the amount of drivers. Cities can promote alternative transportation through these incentives and even by building infrastructure to promote public transportation and travelling by bike. By building more bus lanes and even bike lanes people will see that they have more efficient and cost friendly ways of transportation. This could work most effectively in urban areas. The option of not having to pay places to park or even for gas will certainly get some drivers to switch to alternative transportation services. With less people travelling by cars and more by bike or public transport, greenhouse gasses will be reduced.

Cut down on gas emissions take a nice walk instead of a long drive. Take the bike out of storage and ride it to work every now and then. Let's become a more eco friendly society and change those old gas stove into nice modern ECO FRIENDLY stoves. The atmosphere insulates the surface of the earth. Incoming solar radiation passes through the atmosphere. The surface of the earth absorbs some of the radiation. Unabsorbed radiation is emitted back out in the form of infrared radiation. Gases, such as, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor absorb the reflected infrared radiation. These gases re-emit infrared radiation, some of which the earth absorbs. The greenhouse effect is the absorption of infrared energy by the surface of the earth and the atmosphere. The sun has always shone on the earth as far as scientists can say. In addition, the earth has always had an atmosphere. The atmosphere and the gases in it have caught and trapped solar radiation since time began. Life could not continue and would not have started without the atmospheric gases creating the Greenhouse effect. Humans can help reduce the greenhouse effect. By reducing the amount of gases released into the atmosphere, humans can reduce the infrared radiation, which causes the greenhouse effect. There are several ways to control the amount of gases released. Humans could take advantage of the already existing bus, subway and train systems. The atmosphere is responsible for insulating the earth. It will be too late if there are not steps taken soon to reduce the increasing greenhouse effect.

Almost one in every three American homes have a pod-based coffee machine. Furthermore, almost every office in America contains the same device, and probably more than one. We can never stop people from drinking coffee, but we can mend the way people make and consume their coffee. Specifically, Keurig Green Mountain's operation of coffee production can be reformed. The problem is not the "cup of joe" that America drinks, but the K-Cups that are used to make coffee. K-Cups are the little packages that go into the top of Keurig Machine's and house the ground coffee to make coffee once water is added. The cups cannot be recycled and almost all of the remnants are disposed of in landfills. In 2014, enough K-Cups were thrown away to circle the equator 12 times. In the same year, 9.8 billion K-Cups were sold in America. K-Cups fill landfills, which in turn creates methane (CH4), and release greenhouse gases into our atmosphere. We need to force Keurig Green Mountain to change the non-recyclable material of their K-Cups. Keurig can produce K-Cups made of a reusable material that can also be recycled if needed. The cups will be made of safe and recyclable plastics, probably either Plastic #1 (Polyethylene Terephthalate), Plastic #2 (High-Density Polyethylene), or Plastic #5 (Polypropylene). The new washable and reusable K-Cups will stay in offices and on kitchen counters while the ground coffee will be bought in small, recyclable packets that can easily be opened and poured into the reusable Eco-K-Cup.

Global climate change is a paramount issue of the century, with multifarious factors contributing to the quandary. However, to unravel the complex issue of climate change, various approaches must be taken to target various factors attributed to climate change. One factor exacerbating the shifts in climate is the emission of greenhouse gases, and the sequestration of these gases can help mitigate climate change. Biochar is a material generated from organics carbonized in anoxic environments. This material sequesters the carbon that would have degraded into greenhouse gases, and can be used as a soil enhancer. By burying this biochar, we can make this process “carbon negative”, and improve soil fertility and reduce risk of flooding. One method of implementing biochar as a tool to mitigate climate change is the creation of a program that takes agricultural and livestock waste, and even household garden clippings, and turns them into biochar. Biochar can be created very easily, in pyrolysis oven suitable for even small farms. Implementing a community program with a communal oven to create biochar, we can reduce the amount of biomass that degrades and releases greenhouse gases, and help reduce the impact of greenhouse gases on climate change.

When I am asked how to reduce greenhouse gasses, there are so many ideas that come to mind. There are the simple solutions of driving less, recycling, using power strips for electricity and turning it off when electricity is not being used, using less hot water, air conditioning, and heat, as well as so many other initiatives. These opportunities help, but they don’t make a huge difference. However, the large initiatives being pursued now such as solar energy and wind power cost large sums of money which many businesses and individuals are unable to afford. Therefore, my solution is to create programs and solar/wind power initiatives that are at an affordable price and guarantee effective results. The first step is to determine the breakdown of where finances skyrocket. Then efforts can be made to find inexpensive yet strongly constructed substitutions to the bank-breaking parts of these programs. My hope is for more affordable prices will allow solar and wind power to be available to people and companies, and then companies do not have to sacrifice wages or workers in order to help the planet. The issue should not have a win/loss effect, but rather a win/win result. Another part to my initiative is to have research on the effects of weather extremes and the solar/wind energy. Recently in the US, there have been detrimental effects of lack of power with solar/wind energy in extreme weather. Effective energy in all climates would allow great strides in reducing greenhouse gas emission.

Instead we can can use our phone to get it up and running. That we can travel for miles on but then , later you will have to worry about your phone dying that’s when the solar power phone comes , in where you can change your phone by the sun so we don't have to worry about where you going to charge your phone or is the owner going to let you plug your phone in their socket or on their wall without complaining about you wasting their electricity. Also instead of having people volunteer to clean up the street we can make a cleaning robot that clean up after people without being told to so. This will be effective because the street,s will be clean every day without people doing it or knowing who is doing it. It will change during the day by the sun and cleanup at night. Also I think we can create that drive on water or grass, that all you do is pour water in to it to fill it up by pouring it where you use to pour gas at that way we can get the supply anywhere we are no matter the time of day.

The centre of the building will be the access as well as a wind tunnel, which draws warm air and causing it to become moist with a mist system run by wastewater. By making the air moist, it cools and falls down to the bottom by fans, which turn due the air, generating electricity. The below ground basements will house Biomass power systems, water filtration and collection systems (water waste will be separated by a grading system and then filtrated, re-useable and renewable filtration will be chosen) and geo-thermal plant. The lower floors will house the livestock from heaviest to lightest in weight (i.e. Cattle, Pigs, Lamb, and Poultry). The spaces will be planned to be as open-range as possible so allowing the livestock to roam around an enclosed space. Fast growing regenerative grass would be used as the floor. The middle floors will be set aside for hydroponic growing of vegetables. The upper floors will house both human habitats and green areas for open space use by the human population. The exterior of the building will be made of photovoltaic glass to allow sunlight in and also capture 15% of the sun’s rays and turn this into usable electric energy.

Obesity rates are also on the rise, and residents of America are considering gyms an ideal way to stay fit. However, the middle class is less able to afford these luxuries as average debt from various factors is also increasing. Since people at gyms consume energy to perform tasks that eventually lead to energy dissipation as heat, small generators could be installed in exercise machines to harness that energy. The excess heat produced from the activity could be reused in buildings. Gyms are in every public school as well as college campuses, offices and fitness centers. Imagine if every exercise machine were able to power the gym itself and perhaps parts of the whole building. For example, small exercise machines at airports could be used to charge various electronics such as cell phones and laptops. These gyms would also be fortified with energy floors. According to a model a 30 minute workout period translates to 50 watt hours of carbon-free energy. People walking or running miles could self power small units attached to their legs or arms which can later be used for charging electronics at home.This would save electricity and in turn burn less fossil fuels. With tax benefits for adults participating at these gyms, green machines would help reduce citizen debt and curve the obesity rate all while reducing greenhouse gas emissions leading to a healthier society and planet.

I know what your thinking, Horse make messes everywhere and the poop everywhere, But lets be honest, I did my research and it said that horse manure is good for gardening. I know you might not like it but I think its the best idea for small towns. I vacation in a small town in the summer and love horse's but I was told we could not ride on the street or near the street because of safety issues and rules.This is why I think that we should be allowed to ride horses in small towns to places nearby.

Greenhouse gases are a great thing for us, and our world. Without greenhouse gases, our Earth would be 59 degrees fahrenheit cooler than the average temperature today, which is 57 degrees fahrenheit. Although the presence of greenhouse gases does keep us at a temperature comfortable enough to wear our favorite shorts in, too much of a good thing can become a bad thing. In the past couple of decades, greenhouse gas emissions have risen dramatically, enough to the point where their levels are now a global concern. Ice caps have steadily been diminishing, and global temperatures have been rising. This affects wildlife and climates everywhere, usually negatively because of the sudden deviation from the norm. Electricity production, transportation, and industry are the top sources of greenhouse emissions. However, the number one actual source of emissions is a title that goes to humans, in the past 150, we have been responsible for basically all greenhouse emissions. To stop this, it is our duty to take action. Every environmental commercial hums with the well-known chorus of “use electric cars” and “go solar” and due to this repetition, we tend to often ignore its helpful message and tips. I believe the government needs to engage in higher intervention. Just as many environmental acts and agencies were created in the late 1900s, I believe that the government should again use its power, and mandate days when cars are illegal to use, and bicycles must be driven instead.

Climate change and the emission of greenhouse gases are becoming an increasingly bigger problem in the modern era. In an effort to mitigate this issue, I propose the following innovation: a piezoelectric suit. This is a suit that can take advantage of the piezoelectric effect -- the ability of certain materials to generate an electric charge when pressure is applied upon it. To make use of the piezoelectric effect, the suit will have various piezoelectric generators. Most will be placed throughout the hands and feet since those are regions of the body that exhibit the most pressure on exterior objects and the environment. Piezoelectric generators placed there will make great use of activities such as walking, jogging, weightlifting, and so forth. The remaining piezoelectric generators will be located around the joints, where bending and twisting motions are prevalent. The piezoelectric generators there can make great use of exercises that focus on flexibility, such as those found in yoga. The energy harvested collectively in these piezoelectric generators can be used to charge or power devices like smartphones and GPS receivers. With electricity production being accountable for a large portion of our total greenhouse gas emissions in the US (32% in 2012 according to the EPA), it is worth noting the positive implications that a piezoelectric suit can have on mitigating climate change. Individuals can utilize this suit’s harvested energy to power their devices, rather than immediately reaching for the nearest outlet and contribute to the emission of more dangerous greenhouse gases.

Driving is a large part of people’s everyday lives, yet it takes a toll on the environment. I do not believe that driving cars can be eliminated right now, yet I think there is an immediate solution that would help reduce greenhouse gases. My idea is to implement premium parking for those who carpool. I think the lanes designated for “carpoolers only” have motivated people to drive with one another to work, and if we implemented that idea into parking spaces we could make a larger impact on the effect of greenhouse gases. The parking spaces closest to stores and schools would be for carpoolers only, and there would be many spots so that it became inconvenient for people not to carpool. Teenagers are especially lazy and selfishly enjoy driving their own cars to school, yet I am certain that if they could ensure they would have a close parking spot without having to get to school super early that many students would take on the responsibility of picking up fellow classmates. Although this is a small step towards reducing greenhouse gases, decreasing the number of cars on the roads makes a large impact.

An idea that would be especially promising in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions would be legislation aimed at implementing a stringent minimum environmental standard on transportation vehicles that would require them to rely at least partly on battery-power. Although the opposition to such legislation might argue that current battery powered vehicles compromise performance and run a higher risk of breaking down, there is currently research being done on both solar power and using viruses to help triple the power and capability of current lithium batteries. With this standard implemented, the emissions of the transportation sector (which currently emits 28% of the United States’ greenhouse gasses per year, the 2nd largest percentage for our country behind electricity) could easily be cut in half, which would be a monumental step towards getting atmospheric PPM of CO2 down to 350 (the “safe” level) from its current level of 400.26 PPM. In recent years, the transportation industry has been cutting down on its yearly CO2 emissions, which is a promising step in the right direction, with the growing popularity of hybrid and fully electric vehicles among both consumers and car manufacturers. Cutting the greenhouse emissions of transportation vehicles in half would mark approximately a 14% total reduction in annual US greenhouse gas emissions, just above the 12.5% 350 PPM is of 400 PPM. Essentially, the implementation of this legislation could be the measure needed to finally push the scale back under the tipping point and spearhead the fight to 350 PPM and below.

When most people think of ‘reducing greenhouse gases’, the first solution that comes to mind is often the use of alternative sources of energy such as solar power. While these methods are effective, it will take a few generations before most people have finally converted to them. This is why I believe we should action in other ways while this technology is being perfected and mass-produced. I propose that we look to nature. Earth has already created the first method of removing CO2 from the atmosphere; plants. While we are trying to stop air pollution from it’s source, it is also important to begin fixing the damage that we have already done. Plants have been cleansing Earth’s air for millions of years, and will continue to do so if we do not wipe them all out. Deforestation is a huge problem that many seem to overlook, with each tree that is felled, another air filter is gone. I propose that we look to the forests while we work on alternative energy, focusing on preserving the remaining trees while restoring the lush forests that once covered many areas of the world. Any plants can help; people who live in warm areas of the world can plant gardens, and this will simultaneously increase healthy food sources. Imagine whole cities such as Mexico City, with miles and miles of rooftop gardens, purifying the air. Eliminating the 9% of greenhouse gas emissions caused by deforestation, while seemingly small, could make a big difference.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is the most abundant greenhouse gas emitted through human activity so it has a huge impact on climate change. The vast majority of CO2 emitted from human activity is from the combustion of fossil fuels for electricity, transportation and industrial purposes. Our proposal seeks to significantly reduce CO2 levels by harnessing the reactivity of abundant metal oxides. Metal oxides, naturally occurring substances, are a major concern for many industries as this form cannot easily be used. Conveniently, many of these existing oxides react readily with CO2 and only form harmless carbonates. These minerals could be amassed in large quantities and stored in an area where CO2 can be pumped to. This technique has been used in the past but we plan to innovate the technique by harnessing the reaction’s energy. This reaction is exothermic so the released energy is greater than the activation energy required to catalyze the reaction which is unfortunately very high. However, large amounts of metal oxide and CO2 could be used to produce and convert heat energy into usable forms of energy for offsetting the activation energy. Also, the by-product can be used in infrastructure. The program, if not found profitable in the private industry, could be implemented by governments, as there is a significant benefit to the common good. This would be similar to the recycling program. This idea has the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from various human activities while leaving only a harmless carbonate by-product.

Greenhouse gases have many chemical compounds in them. Many people do not realize how harmful greenhouse gases can be to the environment. Multiple chemicals found in greenhouse gases is to have sunlight enter the earths atmosphere to circulate freely. The radiation comes in the earth and goes back into space. It leaves the earths temperature constant and not able to change, also known as global warming. Numerous gases from the greenhouse, are usually man-made that hurt the environment as it leaves the greenhouse. In order to stop/reduce global warming, one way is to halt greenhouse gases. There are ways to stop it or maybe use them less. Making small changes such as switching your light bulbs to CFL, planting a tree, driving less, and reduce reuse and recycle. Doing those little things will add up to something that would help the environment and not kill it. Encouraging neighbors, friends, and co-workers could help a lot more in saving earth for us and animals. Deciding what change you want to make is easy. For instance, if you decide to stop using your car, why not use a bicycle or use rollerskates as a substitute. Not only will they stop hurting the environment, you'll be exercising to your destination. If you ever need to travel anywhere within your area, try considering using your own personal transportation, your body. Its nice using your own energy to take you wherever you need to go and not a machines.

Whether scientists like it or not humans will never eliminate greenhouse gases completely but we can reduce them. Because of all the years of producing greenhouse gases we will never be able to completely eliminate them altogether. Also when building factories people should use better technology to help prevent pollution floating in the air which will result in greenhouse gases. If people don’t stop building factories that don’t have the proper technology it will create more greenhouse gases which will result in more dramatic effects in global warming. When you build solar panels and wind mills you are only working in a factory once and you don’t have to keep burning things. Also make the windmills and solar panels cheaper because no one is using them because they are so expensive. They would become more appealing if they were a lower price. That is my idea of how we can help our environment so we all can live a healthy and happy life for many generations.

Many of the major greenhouse gases can remain in the atmosphere for tens to hundreds of years after being released. They become globally mixed in the lower atmosphere, reflecting contributions from emissions sources worldwide. One way to reduce the toxins that greenhouse gas brings is to reduce air conditioning. By reducing these you will be saving money and saving energy is case of an emergency. By reducing the heating around the house, building, office (etc...) You will be doing yourself a favor by exposing yourself less to radiation. Using natural heat from the sun is a great choice if it is necessary to dry clothes instead of a dryer saving electricity.

For there to be a reduction in carbon dioxide’s effect on the climate carbon dioxide emissions need to be reduced and the more importantly the removal of carbon dioxide needs to be addressed. Plant life especially trees serve as carbon sinks for removing carbon from the atmosphere and back into plant life and soil. Unfortunately, the growing of this plant life requires large tracks of arable land and plentiful water sources. Africa has the most unused arable land in the world but it lacks adequate water irrigation systems. Yet, this project should take place in Africa as it would economically benefit the continent and its inhabitants, with foreign governments providing the money and resources for the creation of irrigation systems and payments for the land on which to grow the trees. These irrigation projects would create jobs for the locals and providing a source of water for agriculture farming. Furthermore, Africa is in the early stages of industrialization which makes Africa the most strategic place for the placement of the trees as they would absorb the carbon dioxide directly from the new factories that come with industrialization. Additionally, the carbon dioxide sequestering trees would improve the soil quality, allowing for more variety of crops. In conclusion, this project would reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide, and also economically improving the land required creating a win-win situation.

Burning fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum gas, carbon dioxide and other gases are released into the atmosphere. What causes the greenhouse effects are the emissions that trap the heat on earth. There are ways to reduce the greenhouse effects such as saving power, eat less meat, drive less and create less waste we are able to fight global warming. To find out how much we wasted all the things that is hurting our world, is basically looking at our everyday habits on what we do to spend, drive, diet and many other things that results in how much we wasted. To be quite clear it is our responsibility to watch how much of the stuff were doing that has been wasted into our world cause if we don’t then were are going to be responsible on a much larger scale than any of us couldn’t imagine. One of the many ways we can reduce the greenhouse effect is watch on how much we eat everyday. Having to eat smaller portions of food can reflect on areas the ca improve and make a much longer term of changes. Even eating less meat can save a lot of energy and fuel. On a car related issue is a big part that burns fuel. We should really stop driving everywhere to be practical, its the most straightforward action to take in order to reduce the greenhouse effects. Instead of driving ourselves everywhere, try carpooling with others so that can burn less fuel.

We as humans need to get rid of Hesse gases because it affects so many people wih health cares and problems . We need cleaner air for our children and our children's children. A away of reducing this is by planting more trees . We could start at your school , for example at my school we have environmental class and we recently joust planned some flowers . Climate change has a very big impact on all of us. We may not realize it, but many things we take for granted actually contribute to this change, such as a waste of power and energy. Motor-driven vehicles produce carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the most important contributors to climate change. While sitting in a car, driving, or simply enjoying the ride, one may not realize that their vehicle not only emits CO2, but squanders a significant amount of energy, in the form of wind draft. We propose to resolve this issue by integrating wind turbines into the center of lamp posts which are often found adjacent to highways. The implementation of these wind turbines wouldn’t be a problem as these will not interfere with any flying wildlife, since they would be near the ground and not be too wide. They will, however, be large enough to be able to collect a notable amount of energy, but small enough so that it wouldn't be an obstacle. These wind turbines would recycle, and congregate energy created from moving vehicles. The turbine would then convert this energy into electricity, which could be utilized. Since wind power does not produce CO2, it is a clean, renewable form of energy that reduces CO2 emissions. This turbines can transform wind energy, which cannot be consumed for human use, into electricity. The benefits of cleaner air and production of electricity outweigh the cost of the turbines, making this invention a beneficial and eco-friendly source of energy.

P.O.R.S. (Pressurized Oxygen Release System) is a system made to split the CO (Carbon-Monoxide) molecule and release Oxygen back into the air. This idea is based off the principle that when a substance is under pressure the substance's particles will gain great amounts of Kinetic Energy essentially creating enough energy for the particles to smash into each other and the two atoms will break apart. The system starts when air is taken in and sorted until 10,000 kilograms of Carbon-Monoxide is remaining. It is taken into a 25 meter X 25 meter X 4.5 millimeter hollow prism. Then, the prism walls close and all the particles are split apart into Carbon (solid) and Oxygen. These are the reasons for these events. First, to calculate the pressure on the particles comes from the force / area. We can get the force by multiplying the total mass of it (10000000 grams) by the acceleration of the matter inside the area (25 meters (length) / second). Then, from there we can divide that force by the total area of the prism (250000000 / (25*25)) to get pressure. After that, we should get the safe pressure of 400,000 Pascals (58 lbs. / square inch). From there it gets multiplied by the volume for energy (400,000 * (25 * 25 * 0.0045)). Then, we should have 1,100,000j of energy. Which is enough to break the CO bond (1,079,000j). P.O.R.S. is a very safe, cost effective way to reduce Carbon-Monoxide in the air.

Global warming is a huge problem in our world today. It is caused when harmful fumes, such as carbon emission from cars, pollute the Earth’s atmosphere and disrupt the natural energy flow. Here’s some background information: After the sun’s energy passes into the atmosphere and warms the earth’s surface, it needs to be radiated back into space. But we have released such an enormous amount of greenhouse gas into the environment that it now creates a blanket of gas at the edge of our atmosphere. This blanket traps the sun’s energy at the earth’s surface, preventing it from returning to where it belongs, and thus leading to the temperature increase known as global warming. We have decided to focus on what we believe is one of the most common, unnecessary emissions every day, the emission when a car idles. We learned that the amount of carbon dioxide released when restarting an engine is less than the amount released when a car is left on for just 10 seconds. For our experiment, we will be collecting data on the percentage of idling cars in a school parking lot and the average idling time. We will use a carbon dioxide scanner to measure how much carbon dioxide is emitted during that average idling time. From there, we would be able to support our claim and advise everyone to turn off their engines when waiting for over a certain amount of time.

We propose implementing a mixture of man-made biological leaves and solar cells on to the tops of buildings. This allows for carbon dioxide to be taken out of the atmosphere while producing electricity to assist in powering buildings.By extracting chloroplasts from living plant cells and suspending them in silk protein, Julian Melchiorri created the first man-made leaf that is capable of artificially recreating photosynthesis. The question is why use an artificial leaf instead of living plants? Most living plants are limited to being kept in soil and need to constantly be watered. However, this man-made leaf is free of these limitations. The synthetic leaves can be produced in large sheets and placed on virtually any flat surface, while keeping that surface aesthetically pleasing. For example, living plants cannot be placed on a typical single family home, with a pitched roof, without heavy modifications to the building, whereas the artificial leaves made to fit the size of the roof and placed on top with only a few modifications such as adhesion and protection from the elements. Combining existing solar cell technology with innovative artificial leaves provides new ways to mitigate the causes of global warming, using the solar panels to garner clean energy and the artificial leaves to recycle the carbon dioxide into useable oxygen. This combination not only helps reduce global warming, but also uses the natural solar energy and carbon dioxide on our planet for a beneficial, eco-friendly cause.

With increasing momentum behind the healthy life initiative, more and more people are using exercise machines to stay fit. Obesity rates are also on the rise, and residents of America are considering gyms as a very real option. However, the middle class is also becoming less and less able to afford these luxuries as average debt from student loans, mortgages, and other factors is also increasing. Still, there is a solution. Since people at gyms consume energy to perform various tasks that eventually lead to energy dissipation as unusable heat, small generators could be installed exercise machines to harness that energy. The benefits of such a system would be threefold. Firstly, generating clean energy at almost no cost could lead to tax benefits for attending gyms with this system. This also has the effect of helping curb obesity rates, as well as helping with the overall debt in the middle class. The machines would cost a little bit more than their standard counterparts, but the money made by gyms from the generation of energy would quickly outweigh the more expensive price. The last but most important benefit is the conversion of every gym into a power plant for clean, renewable energy, which would cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, all while leading to a healthier, debt free society.

Climate change is a salient issue with no dominant solution, and its effects have vast implications in the present and future. One route to address climate change is through methods of mitigation, whose implementation serves to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is one primary factor that contributes to climate change. However, these methods must be innovative and practical to create real change. One method that addresses these necessities is the creation of insulating blinds for households. The current state of household insulation is imperfect, as almost 25% of energy is wasted through windows. One factor that mitigates heat loss is a fabric with a higher resistance to heat flow. Effective blinds must disrupt the convection current between the internal and external environment, yet be visually appealing and consumer-friendly. An elegant double honeycomb design of colored semi-opaque polyester would be ideal, as air pockets both within the polyester and the larger honeycombs offer insulation, and sidetracks would seal the outside environment from the household to reduce energy consumption. Attaching flexible solar cells with this design to harvest energy from incoming solar rays will also help to mitigate household energy consumption. Additionally, the blinds will be automatic, opening when the room is occupied. This newer piece of household technology can be eye-catching to consumers, and the price of buying new blinds would be recompensed by the energy savings. The innovation of this design is rooted in its practicality in the household. With it, entire communities can significantly reduce their harmful environmental footprint.

Climate change is a major problem facing our society and it is our responsibility to fix it. In 2006, the greenhouse gas emissions of the District of Columbia totaled about 10.5 million metric tonnes. Over the past several years, the city has done much to lower their carbon footprint, but more action can be taken to try to reduce our effect on climate change. The piezoelectric effect is the ability of certain materials to generate an electric charge in response to applied stress or pressure, which can be produced by foot steps. The energy can be accumulated in certain solid materials, such as crystals and ceramics. The transducers would be placed under tiles and walkway coverings where energy can be transferred to an external battery. In DC, hundreds of thousands of employees and tourists walk through the city every day. Using piezoelectric transducers, placed in commonly visited locations in DC, we can use daily foot traffic and convert the stresses into useful energy. To decrease electrical energy consumption in the area, we can implement piezoelectric generators in commonly visited locations in DC, such as the metro station and near popular tourist attractions, collecting as much energy as possible. Our ultimate goal is implement the transducers in DC, but we will start small in the hallways of our high school. The product can be mass produced cost efficiently and harvest enough energy to support DC and other local areas, using otherwise inconsequential foot steps to lower our overall carbon footprint.

If everyone were to change the way their house operates, reduce electricity or even just changing what brand of light bulbs or cleaning products you buy. It can be as simple as changing at least five light bulbs in your home, changing them to an energy efficient brand that generates the same brightness and uses 75% less energy and also lasts a lot longer. Another quick and easy to reduce your carbon footprint would be to heat and cool your home smartly. This means changing air filters, using a programmable thermostat, and properly maintaining your heating and cooling equipment. This reduces your electric bill and your greenhouse gas emission. Simply riding a bike to your friends’ house or biking to school can reduce the amount of carbon put into the environment. It also gives you exercise. Also putting a recycling bin in your home close to your trash can so you can put bottles and cans in the recycling bin instead of the trash, reusing old water bottles can help reduce your carbon footprint too. Water use is another contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Just turning off the water while you brush your teeth can majorly reduce the amount of carbon emissions. It takes a lot of energy to clean and pump the water you use, the less you use the less energy is used. Reducing your carbon footprint starts at home.

During the winter, heating consumes a lot of energy. This energy is not being used to do anything other than heat cold air. Servers produce a lot of heat too, and a lot of energy is used to cool these servers. Why not combine the two? If servers, primarily ones with many GPUs (Graphical Processing Units), which produce a lot of heat, and that also don’t need a consistent internet connection, could be placed inside homes. This would cut down on cooling bills for server owners, and heating bills for homeowners, especially if the server owners pay for most of the server electricity requirements. If this price was split 80/20 with the server owners paying the majority, this would cut down price and energy consumption for both parties. Seeing as GPUs are most effective at running many simple, individual tasks at once. Servers with many GPUs which also don’t a constant internet connection would probably be used for hash cracking or some sort or protein folding. These are processes which can run continuously with little interruption, so they could largely supplant the central heating systems of many homes. Servers can be rather dense in terms of heating capability, so space constraints would not be a significant issue. However, this practice would have to take place in more northern climates, because the summer months could be counterproductive The company would probably have to pay for the host home’s cooling bill to make this system seem attractive to more people.

With this, we can help reduce greenhouse gasses by using products with less packaging and reusing products to reduce waste, as well as recycling your household products to keep them still in use and not throw them away to reduce waste. This can help save up to 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide a day. Another major way is to plant trees. Trees absorb up to one ton of carbon dioxide in their lifetime, and give off lots of oxygen. Not only will this help just the environments, but it is beneficial to us as well, since we need oxygen. There are also many things you can do at home, such as changing your light bulbs to florescent light bulbs which use a third of the energy as the regular, using a lot less hot water while showering and washing things (saving 500 lbs. of carbon), and use less air conditioning and heat because turning it down two degrees could save 2,000 lbs. of CO2 a year. All of these things could help lower energy costs as well as help the environment. Also, another thing is to spread the word, and have others do the same thing you have, to help maintain a save and great environment. This planet has given us everything, and now it’s our turn.

Since the burning of fossil fuels releases gases that increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, using other methods of transportation like bicycles and eco-friendly public transportation can reduce one’s carbon footprint and negative impact on the environment. As public awareness for protecting the environment increases, large cities like Seattle, WA are incorporating hybrid-diesel electric into their transportation fleets, which reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, like nitrous oxide, by up to thirty percent, compared to their generic diesel buses. Cities like New York City are incorporating hybrid vehicles into taxi fleets, like the Toyota Prius. Hybrid cars like these reduce the consumption and burning of gasoline, and can travel up to fifty miles on a single gallon of gasoline, thus making them more efficient compared to generic taxis. In addition, riding a bicycle can reduce one’s carbon footprint, and requires both less energy and materials to make compared to a car. If one cannot access any of these options, walking to a destination that’s close can significantly reduce one’s contribution to greenhouse gas emission, if the destination is within a reasonable distance. Even though these hybrid vehicles do burn gasoline and produce carbon dioxide, having thirty people travel using one tank of gas versus thirty people using thirty tanks of gas is a much more efficient and beneficial way to travel, and reduces the emission of greenhouse gases.

China is the largest consumer of CO2, producing 29% of the global total, about 7.2 tonnes per person. We, the Dalian American International School, are tackling this crisis by education and harnessing social media to engage students. One of our goals is to become the Eco-School of Northeast China, a hub which consists of a network of schools involved in activities to lower energy and CO2 usage. We have already carried out several outreach programs across local schools, and as a future Eco-School, we want to engender an Eco-Center in which we will initiate more programs to mitigate the CO2 emissions. We feel that the only way to resolve the crisis is to find and change the root cause, which is people’s attitude. Through our recycling programs, Earth Day events with NGO’s, electricity efficiency programs, water App committee, and involvement with United Nations Water for Life Decade, we feel empowered that we are on the path of changing the attitudes. Our model is specifically focused on changing attitudes and educating young people and communities at the local level. Through social media and interactive projects we will engage our community in action. We are documenting and promoting our efforts and developing a model that will be applied by other schools and organizations.

A invention to convince and help people use less electricity in their home is using rechargeable lamps. The rechargeable lamps could run on batteries this can reduce issue of light use and can help people save more money while helping to reduce greenhouse gases because electricity is the biggest effect on climate change which is causing the greenhouse gases to increase more. Also to reduce greenhouse gases is deforestation because it is also one of the major effects on greenhouse gase. Cutting down trees to build something else must be making the atmosphere differently because we are receiving less oxygen.The trees are there to us because we use trees to breath. If the greenhouse gases keeps on increasing because of deforestation then the outcome of it will be bad. A solution to deforestation is protesting to the people in charge of cutting down trees and making a statement and explain to them why it is wrong and is affecting our climate. It is crucial to maintain healthy stratospheric ozone levels as diminished ozone layer allows more radiation to reach into our troposphere. It has adverse health effects such as skin cancer, cataracts and weakened immune systems. It also disrupts crop yield and marine food chains. The most critical level of ozone is seen in Antarctica, therefore majority of the satellites would be focused here and around other ozone holes. The reflective material used on the satellite could be either gold mylar film which is an effective reflector and is cheap or glass mirrors. The power source for most satellites are solar panels, so there may be some competition for space. Therefore the body of the satellite could be covered in the mylar film. The underside of the solar panels could be fitted with mirrors.

The transportation industry accounts for the second highest producer of greenhouse gases, with 28% of all greenhouse gas emissions. The most abundant of these are gasoline-powered cars, with their carbon dioxide emissions. More recently, electric battery powered cars have hit the market. While they do not directly emit greenhouse gases, they are very inefficient and need to be charged often, usually through a wall electrical outlet that is powered by a coal plant. To fix this, we have devised a method in which electric cars could be charged while on the road, using what we call “wireless charging grids”. These charging grids would consist of metal induction panels placed under the roads. They would be powered by photovoltaic cells at the side of the road, utilizing a major source of renewable energy. On the receiving end, the electric cars would use built in induction panels underneath the chassis. As the cars drive over the charging grid, they capture the electricity to charge the battery. This would be efficient as the car is in close proximity to the road. The charging grids could be placed under existing highways and would span about 2000 feet and be spaced every 2 miles. At a typical highway speed limit of 60 miles per hour, an electric car would pass over the charging grid for approximately 22 seconds. This technology could help those who travel long distances to make the switch to electric cars.

Take a look around you. What do you see? Chances are, you see a lot of PLASTIC. Plastic has become a way of life to us, everything we have, we buy, we think we need is plastic. But what is it really? Well plastic is made from NON RENEWABLE resources. This means that once it's gone it's gone. So do we really need to be filling up our landfills with plastic of all things. And what about plastic shopping bags? You use them for maybe fifteen minutes. Then you probably just put in another bag. They will all end up in landfills. They don't decompose. The plastic that fills our landfills just sits there for years and years at a time. So what can we do? A lot of people would just say “We just recycle!" Well this statement is very wrong. Only about half of what's recycled can actually be used again. What about paper bags? Though this is better, you still have to get that paper from somewhere. Bringing your own bags is better, but they are still made and lined with plastic. The answer to our plastic problem is replacing plastic with compostable, cutting down plastic in landfills and oceans. It has been invented, we just have to use it. No more plastic bags in trees and floating on highways and streets. It would help keep our non renewable resources in good supply, and just make the world a better place for generations to come.

These paints are advantageous due to their ability to cover a large surface area, and can be painted onto the entire surface of a car. The second innovation, implementing a Fresnel lens on a multi-junction solar cell, can utilize a power several times stronger than regular sunlight in a small area, greatly increasing the output of solar cells. Gas powered cars can use these technologies to power internal components such as air conditioning, lights and radio. This allows people to run electronics without worrying about batteries dying, while also reducing the amount of CO2 being released by idling cars. If an electric or hybrid car is able to successfully use these concepts, the amount of power drawn from the grid will be reduced, cutting down on the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air from power plants. The Fresnel lenses and solar cells would be located on the roof of the car, to maximize the area they can cover. The paint would cover the surface of the rest of the car. Fresnel lenses and photovoltaic paints, in addition to their low costs, have low impacts on the overall design of the car, and do not largely affect the aerodynamics of the car.

The production of cellulosic ethanol made from citrus fruit peels makes a more efficient alternative to gasoline. The pectin, sugars, seeds, and cellulose of the orange peel is used to create the ethanol fuel. Citrus fruits are renewable and constantly demanded, making them more accessible than gasoline. Companies in agricultural production can use citrus peel ethanol as fuel for trucks and machinery. Their own products’ waste can then fuel their production, reducing costs and harmful gases. The orange then serves two purposes to businesses, fuel and food. Companies sell millions of tons of citrus peel waste from production in Florida and California to cattle farmers. Instead of selling the wasted peels, the companies who produce the citrus fruits should convert the peels into usable ethanol fuel to power their machinery used in production. Also, the ethanol fuel can be produced for other companies to use as a substitution to gasoline. Businesses then can sell citrus ethanol along with the fruits. The businesses have an incentive to produce orange peel ethanol fuel in order to reduce their costs which in return reduces the greenhouse gases. Although the orange peel fuel may be localized in Florida and California, the businesses can sell the fuel produced to other agricultural companies in the United States. Efficiency in a huge portion of the economy would greatly decreases the harsh impact of greenhouse gases.

Electricity contributes to one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions. One way to reduce these emissions would be through the implementation of solar panels on the roofs of marinas along the coasts of the United States and even the world. Being located in heavily sunned areas, marinas would be able to harness solar power and use it towards reducing their use of electricity. This also provides incentive to boat owners because it will reduce their dock-slip fees because little to no electricity is required because there would be an abundance of solar power collected from the panels. Furthermore, the recognition that solar panels provide an alternative usage for electricity would promote environmentally friendly boating activities and make boaters and sea-goers think twice about polluting the ocean. Boats already utilize such heavily concentrated amounts of gasoline and thus pollute the water and air with harmful greenhouse gases. Turning the marinas, in which boats are stationed, into power-saving entities would offer an increasingly helpful mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. Every little bit helps and if all marinas could add even just a few solar panels to the roofs of their marinas, they could reduce their usage of electricity and in turn, aid the innovational quest to mitigate the deterioration of the environment.

Once the food is bought it is packed into bags manufactured from ethylene, which is a gas produced from the combustion of coal, oil, and petroleum. The bags go through a long chain of production which releases massive amounts of greenhouse gasses. Not only is the production releasing these gasses but so is the transportation to deliver these huge amounts of bags to grocery stores, causing more pollution in the air. A way to reduce these monstrous gasses could start by putting an end to the production of these bags. People should also start using reusable bags that are also made of 100% recycled material. Not only will they be putting an end to the plastic bag, but they will also be able to bring the same bag every time they go to the grocery store to buy their weekly meals. Recently in the town where I live recycling businesses have rejected the plastic grocery bags because they are not recyclable; there is no need for an absurd amount of plastic bags if they are not even allowed to be recycled. Over 1 trillion plastic bags are used every year, world wide, and a single plastic bag can take over 1000 years to degrade. Only about .5% to 3% of all plastic bags get recycled. Getting rid of these bags would save the environment from a plastic bag takeover.

It is crucial that as a world community, we reduce Greenhouse gases. If Greenhouse gases continually rose, the world would warm at a catastrophic rate. Ice would melt faster, sea levels, would rise, and land would become less fertile. These things could, eventually, lead to human extinction. In order to reduce these gases, I believe that humans need to become more aware of this problem and they need to be guided to stop it. I would encourage people to not leave their cars running when not using them, as well as, only using electricity when needed. I think that the world needs to develop a better recycling system, by making recycling more available to people, and recycling more goods. I believe that by turning landfills into recycling facilities we can reduce a great amount of gases and protect nature from destruction while doing so. It is important that we are conscience about the gases, because the world is our home and we need to keep it safe for us to thrive and insure that it stays beautiful.

Anytime you get a leaky toilet you should treat it right away. If you have a dishwasher, use it only when it has a full load. This can save about 100 pounds of carbon dioxide and about $40 a year. Only water your landscape whenever it needs water and on the coolest time of the day, early morning is best. Saving water reduces gas emissions. Reduce the amount of water you use a day whenever possible. Like when you shave or brush your teeth, don’t leave the water running. There is a lot of energy used to pump and treat water. When you buy products look for the WaterSense label, it saves up water and it also saves you money. Just overall use water effectively and do not waste water because there is a lot of energy used to give us water and getting this energy releases a lot greenhouse gases.

Cars use and burn gasoline and other fossil fuels, which release carbon dioxide into the air. One way to mitigate climate change can be by innovating transportation around the world. Every mode of transportation uses electricity, burns gasoline and fossil fuels. Instead of running off gasoline and fossil fuels, there should be a consideration of solar panels. If every mode of transportation decided to incorporate solar panels, then the rate of climate change will decrease. Having solar panels also means that we will no longer have the need for gas stations. Running off natural energy will no longer burn gasoline and no longer expose as much carbon dioxide into the air. This will also decrease the amount of energy that the world uses everyday. If the amount of electricity used is decreased, then it decreases the output of power plants. Living off the energy that we can naturally make will the decrease the emission of greenhouse gases. As we all know, people get around every day and the burning of gasoline and fossil fuel never ends. It’s occurring every second that we live on this earth. The fact that this is always happening makes sense to run off natural energy provided by solar panels. Therefore, incorporating solar panels with our modes of transportation will mitigate climate change and allow us to live peacefully for a longer period of time.

My idea doesn't focus on an individual, rather on the society itself, humans by nature are creatures of habits, the more someone sees something the more one becomes accustomed to it. This idea of subliminally changing a person's mind to a certain view is the reason commercials were invented. The best way to reduce green house gases isn't by encouraging people to recycle, because eventually they will forget and continue there old habits. The best way to reduce greenhouse gases is instead by flooding society with these ideas so much that actions like recycling and turning off your lights aren't things someone might remember to do but rather are part of their everyday life.

Of these renewable power sources, wind and solar power lead the pack. Both of these amazing power sources have a downside. When the wind stops, or the sun goes down, the power stops generating. The renewable energy is produced, and is not stored. The solution to this problem is obviously batteries, now, of course we could just send the power to a battery, but the battery does not store enough power. In conclusion, we need to improve our batteries. Currently, the best battery for its size and cost is the lithium air battery. To improve on this design, we could use the m13 bacteriophage on the grids inside the battery that holds the power. The mutated m13 virus, when air, palladium, and lithium are added, turns into a template for conducting and holding electricity. It can help the battery hold more energy by increasing it’s surface area. The battery will last longer and withstand more recharges because the virus adds more material to the grids. Some concerns with the virus are that it could be infectious and make people sick. The m13 virus poses no danger to humans, plus, it kills E-coli and various other bacteria. Some are also concerned that it could mutate again, which is very unlikely. This virus will make a super battery that we can store clean, renewable, solar and wind energy.

The market for portable electronic devices has exploded over the past decade, as well as a general push for fossil fuels to be replaced by clean energy. One unfortunate issue with portable devices is that they have limited battery life, and have to be abandoned while charging. This problem can easily be solved by a portable charger, which can easily be made clean. The most common and simplest form of clean energy is solar energy. By creating a multi-port charging device from solar cells, both problems are solved with a single, relatively cheap, efficient device that can be sold commercially for a small profit. It would be helpful to attach a lithium-ion battery to the charging device so that it may be used without sunlight. More development can make the solar cells smaller and more powerful, allowing for an even smaller charging unit. The device can be adapted for military and other use, allowing dozens of devices to use clean energy for their technology. The cell can also be used to supply clean power to people in blackouts, alleviating the stress of some elements of changing weather while reducing the carbon footprint of each device. Efficient chargers cost around a hundred dollars in today’s market, and cheaper chargers are unable to produce a decent power supply. A more efficient, cheaper, and simpler version of a solar cell charger could help thousands of people navigate power loss, a major issue caused by a changing climate.

In order to mitigate climate change, we propose a program to encourage members of the community to reduce the consumption of processed and non-organic foods in their diets. An app will be developed to advocate the reduction or removal of meats and processed foods in the diets of community members for health and environmental benefits. This app will also allow users to locate farmers’ markets, and receive discounts for said markets. Our app tracks users’ diets, and calculate their reduction of greenhouse gasses. Revenue generated by the sale of local foods could be used in further initiatives to mitigate climate change. The second facet of our project includes a partnership between local farmers’ markets and schools to encourage the consumption of locally produced organic foods. The students could learn about organic farming methods and the benefits of eating organic produce, incorporating these organic foods into their lunches. This program would be viable in our community, due to the prevalence of agriculture in the area. Our local high school offers a “global ecology” program which promotes education and awareness pertaining to environmental issues, causing students to be more receptive of the idea of consuming more locally grown goods. By incorporating locally grown foods into meals, emission of greenhouse gasses is reduced through lessened demands on factory production of fertilizers, meat, and dairy, which amount to almost 20% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Additional greenhouse gasses are emitted through the transportation of fertilizers and foods, and our project would reduce them drastically.

We looked at this and we thought what could cars run on besides fuel? While researching this topic we knew that there was a trash problem. Using compost to fuel cars would solve more than one problem. By more than one problem we meant that it would contribute to a solution for the greenhouse gas problem and the trash problem. It would reduce the amount of trash that we produce. As you know the greenhouse gases are causing global warming. This is because the more fossil fuels we burn the carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases are let out into the atmosphere and the greenhouse gases are keeping the warmth inside the earth and this causing global warming. We would replace the fossil fuels in gas stations with the fuel made out of compost. There is a company that has made a car that runs on compost. It is very expensive to make, so we are looking for a way to make it cheaper, so people will be able to afford them.

This along with many other factors have caused these increase in greenhouse gases. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) makes the majority of the greenhouse gases present in our atmosphere. We have plants all throughout our planet biologically designed to remove said carbon dioxide. The best plant for this job is obviously the biggest specimen, trees. My idea is simple to have trees do it for us. I believe cities should be mandated to maintain a certain amount of public are reserved for plant life. Among this plant life breeds of trees best suited for removing carbon dioxide should be included. This would be best incorporated in larger cities were carbon emissions are highest such as Los Angeles. I understand parks and other plant life already exist in urban areas but they are not well up kept in many cases, or designed specifically towards optimizing the carbon intake. Parks are all well and good, but many do not have much tree life or if they do much of the trees are dead. I understand that with the average tree, even those better at carbon intake. It would take many trees to cause any form of an impact. This can be countered by genetically engineering trees to increase carbon intake. Along with other efforts to reduce greenhouse gases perhaps this can make an impact.

A CPC (Community Produce Center) will be a place for residents of a community to receive completely organic produce grown within the community, that is cheaper than imported produce, and comes from the most energy efficient compound possible. This will get rid of the greenhouse gas released by importing produce. Every new development(of a town or city) will have a CPC. New land development laws will say that for every acre a developer develops they will have to set aside a certain amount of land for the CPC. It is not impractical by any measure, since it is very similar to agricultural reserve laws. The developers will then have to build all of the components of the CPC. Every month the residents of the community pay a certain fee, which goes towards paying for seeds and employees. All demanded produce can be grown in greenhouses. This monthly fee will be much less than what the residents would normally pay per month for imported produce since they pay for shipping, processing etc... They will then take their portion of produce for that month, whenever they want. The compound will include: Cold storage facilities for fresh produce (powered by solar panels), storage for canned and jarred produce, large greenhouses (functional all year) that use of square foot gardening and hydroponics to conserve space, and drip irrigation systems to water crops (no energy needed). There should be a CPC within walking distance of anyone who lives within the community (no gas getting there).

Greenhouse gases are a nuisance that has been plaguing our planet for centuries. At this point in time, however, the threat is more severe than ever. One of the major causes of greenhouse gas emissions are vehicles (cars, trucks, SUVs, etc.). Everyone owns one, and we use them to go everywhere. My proposal to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases we let into the air is to use more efficient means of travel. Carpooling, for instance, would be one way. Instead of taking one car for each one person, colleagues and classmates could take one car for as many people as the car can fit. People could also take the buses, or even ride their bikes for the short trips out. This would reduce the amount of cars being used, and thus reduce the amount of pollution being released into the air.

The Application Building group of the Dalian American International School aims to educate kids from 6 to 11 years old about the CO2 increase and the importance of energy conservation and creating a cleaner environment. We our working on developing a computer/phone game that will be both fun and educational. The application game's purpose is to design your very own ecofriendly house, using the least amount of environmentally harmful products (e.g windows, frames, furniture, etc.). Although there's a recommended age group for greater efficiency of the app, it is not limited, and anybody can feel free to use it. Since nowadays industrial production produces a lot of both air and energy waste, the objective of this game is to use the most ecofriendly materials, providing a real-life situation (of architectural creation), and therefore educating its users to be more environmentally aware. The group has done research on how to design applications, as well as which materials are (and aren’t) the most friendly or the most harmful to the surrounding environment and air. The group is currently waiting to apply the knowledge that we have obtained, into creating the actual product which will change the thinking of the future generation.

There are a couple ways in which we all can reduce these gases. In my opinion, the easiest way it can be reduced would be if we reduce, reuse, and recycle. So many people are affected, so we need to start doing what it takes to at least reduce them a bit. The best way for greenhouse gases to be reduced is to reduce, reuse, and recycle. We should need to reduce the amount of stuff we use, for example: water, oil, and light. Then we can recycle the things that we use, for example: cans, plastics, and anything else that can be used again and that’ll save so much more materials that can be used for better things. We can reuse things by trying not to damage stuff that we know we can use more than just once, for example sometimes we wash clothes without it needing to be washed, so we are practically wasting water.

The greenhouse gas effect is a serious and rapidly growing problem. Our lack of progress and initiative as a planet is frightening. A recent increase in technological advances in the past decade negatively add to the greenhouse gas effect. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency “electricity production generates the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions. Over 70% of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels.” One inefficient energy use is the battery life and charging process of phones. With new, faster, lighter, and smarter applications more and more energy is being taken from the phones battery making users charge their phones more. According to Juniper Research “The world is generating 6.4 megatons of greenhouse gases from smartphones charging. By 2019, Juniper Research predicts, that amount will be more than 13 megatons. Those 13 megatons are equivalent to the current annual emissions of 1.1 million cars.” A majority of electricity grids are powered by coal, most commonly found in Asia. There are many ways to approach this issue. One idea is to create a charger that stops when the phone is fully charged, this will prevent overcharging and decrease useless energy transferred. Another idea is to create energy efficient versions of common applications. By making all applications have a lower brightness or shutting off applications not being used are easy tactics to save battery life. Some people chose to use these tactics anyway, but it would be more effective and easier to control by making these features built into the application.
