Excellence in Estuaries Education

As part of a larger project developing high school curriculum modules using a focus on estuaries to explore topics in earth science, life science, and physical sciences, TERC designed and conducted a national needs assessment. The needs assessment, conducted in the spring of 2007 using an online survey in both English and Spanish, reached over 1000 teachers and other educators. It provided a wealth of information about how science content related to estuaries is currently taught, and the sorts of supports and obstacles teachers are working with in teaching more about estuaries. The larger project also included a review of state and national standards to see how they link to the teaching of estuarine-related content.
